Well I use VLC for the most of my videos (because of familiarity with key binding/UI and also I love this) x264 encodes to be specific and I use MPV (Higly Recommended)for video that are encoded in x265 or those with higher resolution and framerate.

BTW I just made my signature please check it out, please do leave a comment on my Profile if you liked it : ).

I used to use VLC or KMPlayer, but currently I'm loving the simplicity mpv brings.

VLC cause the keybinds are really good. If the anime doesn't have chapters to skip the intro you can bind something for skipping 1:30 mins and you can bind something for jumping to the next episode like "n"

Real Player is where it's at...j/k I usually use VLC media player whenever I download anything but I mostly just watch things on the web and use Chromecast to cast it to my tv.

I just watch the anime on the site, otherwise general Windows Player will do. VLC is actually pretty good tho I should get that again.

Switched from MPC-HC to MPC-BE.

One thing that really bugs me is that there is no nothing subtitle track option. Maybe one of you can help.

This is how it is in MPC-HC:

See how the default track is "No subtitles". Unless it's a foreign movie where the subs are set to default in the MKV or unless the subs are forced. That means that I can keep the subtitles enabled and will only see them in foreign movies or if forced in the MKV. Or if I select it.

This is how it is in MPC-BE:

There's only the one option under Enable. Only the subs. So I have to keep the subs either fully off or fully on for all movies or select with each, which sucks.

I made a mistake on the Poll.

My PRIMARY media player is: Web (No media player)

but in the poll I voted vlc (which I use for the few anime I download).

My primary media player is the android video player built into my smartphone.

When a video is playing in the browser the Video Player app shows up as Active and in use in the android list of programs that are running and using memory.

Though I'm not sure if videos use the browser app or the system app... either way the actual video interface is web based.

MPC with a few plugins. MPC is better than VLC because it remembers the last episode you played and also because it lets you decide what audio and subtitles are default. Mine is set up so that japanese audio and english subs are the default.

Also, if for some insane reason I enable english dubs, the subtitles are automatically switched off.

Okay I did some digging:

I clicked play on an anime video and right clicked: Inspect Element.

I can confirm if you're clicking play on a web page on any device you're using a web based player that was placed on the webpage.

Whether it's Video Js, Vjs Tech, html5 video player (youtube uses this now after it stopped using adobe flash) chromecast or whatever ... you're using a web player.

Your phone's video app will recognise you're using a web player and the video app will support your video watching by making sure your screen doesn't automatically black out and go to sleep because you're not touching your touchscreen.

Media Player Classic, but sometimes I use WMP
Same. used WMP for a long time but then decided that it is inconvenient to restart music after watching anime every time.

Now I have MPC for videos and WMP for music.
